This week has been a very sad and busy week out in Virginia; for rescuers and shelters in the area. This week has also been 'freedom week' for over 1100 puppies.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those involved who are volunteering and giving of their lives to help these pups in need. Thank you for taking on this massive task. And we send our love to the pups; may you find quality care, love, food and wonderful furever homes, quickly and safely.
According to sources:
On November 1, 2007, Carroll County, Virginia, Animal Control Authorities were contacted by Virginia Partnership for Animal Welfare and Support (VA PAWS) concerning a puppy mill located in the Town of Hillsville, Carroll County, Virginia. This puppy mill is believed to be the largest of several which were the focus of a five-month investigation by The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) with the assistance of VA PAWS of puppy mills located in Virginia.
Carroll County, VA officials and local rescue groups declared the situation a disaster, and began this week to rescue over 1100 dogs from this overcrowded puppy mill. Pups are being rescued and taken to many shelters in the area and up and down the East Coast. These shelters will be in need of many daily items - towels, toys, food, supplies, donations for healthcare and more. Help if you can.
Shelters will quickly become overcrowded in these areas. Let's help these pups find a home! Take the time to share this post and info with whomever you feel can help; or with anyone who could bring more awareness to this horrible situation and the pups in need.

It's so sad and disgusting to hear about these puppy mills and the horrible way these dogs have been treated. You're doing a wonderful job with your blog at getting the word out and hopefully it will help these poor creatures find good homes.
I just adopted a very sweet 4 1/2 year old female Boston Terrier that was part of this rescue, it has been slow with the house breaking and the adventure on a leash and just being outdoors is interesting, she is such a sweet dog and sleeps in the bed with us at night. Although puppies are cute, I would ask people to consider adopting a older dog, especially one that has been used as just a breeder, she came into Angels of Assisi with a USDA chain on her neck and a number, she was just a number, now she is our little Georgia.
