Meet Snow!

Snow is a white German Shepherd mix females that was rescued just in time before being euthanized. He is fine with all dogs and loves to play. And he's gained weight since this picture. The vet seem to think he is 6-7 months of age.

Snow is so cute, you may want to start a nice small business franchise and get her noticed!

We found Snow currently being cared for by AOHT's (All Our Hearts Together) Rainbow Bridge in Bonham, Texas. AOHT's (All Our Hearts Together) Rainbow Bridge is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), tax-exempt organization which runs strictly by Fostering Parents only.

Meet Snow!

Snow is a 5 year old, 80 lb. pure bred Alaskan Malamute. She is housebroken, spayed and will be updated on her shots. She is very good with people but should not be placed in a home with small dogs or cats. She knows basic commands and listens very well. She has a high prey instinct which is common with this breed. She can be walked without a lead as she follows you, but due to her high prey nature, should be leashed at all times.

We found Snow currently being cared for by the Burlington County Animal Alliance - PA in
Havertown, Pennsylvania. Burlington County Animal Alliance is a private, nonprofit animal advocacy group. We focus primarily on rescue and adoption of shelter dogs and cats from the Burlington County Animal Shelter Center.

Meet Snow!

Snow is a sweet American Eskimo dog, about 8 years old, and weighs in around 30 pounds. He is very pleasant, friendly, and gets along well with other dogs and cats. He is no trouble to take for a walk, because he walks very well on a leash. Snow is a little hard of hearing so you may have to speak a little louder to him. He really is a sweet guy -- could you open up your home and heart to Snow?

We met Snow through Critter Care Adoptions Inc., in Evans City, Pennsylvania. They are a very small, non-profit group of pet lovers, run by a Veterinarian, dedicated to saving the lives of homeless and unwanted animals.

Meet Snow!

Snow is a very special dog - captured by Animal Control in Newport Beach near a hospital where a poochmatch volunteer is employed. Snow was scheduled for euthanasia because she growled at a kennel attendant. We believed the growl was out of fear not aggression, and we were right.

She's very gentle girl and meets me for her walk at the door every morning. She is recovering fabulously from what we believe was a very rough life of not having been treated well. Although her ear has been broken (we don't know how) - her spirit is still in tact. She has started to embrace affection, and is gaining trust, confidence and she grows accustomed to being around her foster brothers and sisters. She continues to flourish and will make a wonderful companions. Get those las vegas hotel reservations made, 'cause you're gonna feel lucky to have her!

We met Snow currently being cared for by Pooch Match in Santa Ana, California. PoochMatch is a 501(c)(3) Charitable organization. They are an all volunteer group and have no paid employees.

Meet Lailani!

Leilani, or 'lay-la' for short, never knew that she could be a part of a family when she came to our rescue. She is just 45 lbs, and was near death with a 6-pound tumor in her belly. She just laid there and looked up at you with love, amazed that someone was talking to her and petting her. She was not used to attention...it still confuses her sometimes.

Well the tumor is gone and she's back on her feet. Leila likes her walks...if it's for 5 minutes or 45 minutes, she's good to go. She gets on well with other dogs and walks well on a leash.

What she needs is a family in a single-level home with no stairs and no cats, that will accept her love and love her back with a belly rub. She has impeccable house manners (she won't get on the bed, but if you put her there she loves it under the covers for a nap with you), is very housebroken and not destructive in any way. We are guessing her age at over 10, but she has a brisk walk and some puppy energy.

We're sure you'll want to take lots of nice pics of Leilani, and maybe even do what my Mum did, get a new camera using those handy Black Friday ads!

We found Lailani currently being cared for by Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue, in Los Angeles, California. Their mission is to find loving, lifetime homes for all Southern California Golden Retrievers in need, regardless of conditions or circumstances. We will always strive to heal the sick and injured, rehabilitate the neglected and abused, and nurture the aged and unwanted until we find the perfect family who will shower them with unconditional love.

Meet Odie!

This is Odie. This sweet little guy is about 8 years old. He came from a breeder that no longer wanted to breed him. He is the most affectionate little guy in the world. He loves attention from anyone! He is a very quiet dog because he was de-barked, but he does have a little squeaky noise that he uses to let you know he needs to go out.

He loves treats. He is a cuddle bug who loves to sleep under the covers with you. He'd keep you as warm as a tankless water heater. Odie does not like kids. He needs to be with adults only. He attaches to his person, a basic trait of chihuahuas, and wants to be with you always. He loves car rides too. He tolerates other dogs but does not want to play with them, he wants all of the attention to himself.

We found Odie currently being cared for by Rescued Pets Are Wonderful in Blaine, Minnesota. The purpose of RPAW is to rescue companion animals and find appropriate homes for them. They educate companion animal owners or responsible pet ownership, including, but not limited to training, spaying and neutering, animal behavior, and human animal bonding.

Meet Coco!

CoCo is a 12 week old, short haired, Sable colored Lab/Beagle mix Female.

She is just 8 ½ lbs right now and we guess she’ll be about 35 lbs. when full grown. She’s fine with other dogs, cats and kids. She loves everyone and would be an excellent puppy for a family with kids! She was rescued from animal control over a month ago and we’ve had her ever since.

She is microchipped, spayed, had almost all her vaccinations for the year (she needs one last booster in several weeks), and is on monthly heartworm & flea prevention. With a puppy like this, you sure won't have a need for Leptorexin diet pills, she'll keep you active and in great shape!

We found CoCo currently being cared for by Jennifers Pet Rescue Inc., in Dallas, Georgia. Jennifer's Pet Rescue is no-kill, non-profit, animal rescue organization located in Dallas, Georgia since 1998. They are located in Paulding County, which is located 30 miles northwest of Atlanta, are licensed through Paulding County, through the state of Georgia and are 501(c)(3), so all donations are always 100% tax-deductible. Meet Petey!

Meet sweet Petey, a beautiful Dalmatian Pointer mix, who needs a forever home. He was rescued from the City of LA shelter, where he'd been for 5 months! Petey's former owner was a soldier who surrendered him when he was sent abroad. Petey is 7-8 years old, 65 lbs, in good health, and very affectionate. He is also housetrained and responds to commands.

We are sure you will definitely need swiss replica watches, with this guy. Why? Because you're gonna loose all track of time having so much fun!

We met Petey through A Dog's Life Rescue in Los Angeles, California. Their mission is to save the lives of abandoned, abused, or neglected dogs and other animals, by providing shelter, care, and medical attention to homeless animals through adoption, adoption events, and community outreach. And, to promote animal welfare and the importance of spaying and neutering.

Meet Nugen!

This is Nugen, an 8 year old blue male. Don't let his age fool you, he has lots of energy to play. He is neutered and crate-trained and currently being fostered in Wisconsin. He came into the rescue because his family moved to Africa.

His foster mom and dad love having him around He is a very mellow and easy-going guy, loves to play fetch and Frisbee, and will be your best friend if you can throw the ball for him. He gets along with other dogs just great, but he's not sure about cats, and would prefer a home without them. He is very well mannered in the house and stays off of the furniture. And he sleeps on a dog bed at night. He also listens so well outside, he's allowed off my leash occasionally.

We found Nugen currently being cared for by Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue. They are an all-volunteer, nonprofit group whose primary mission is to help with the rescue & placement of Weims in the Great Lakes region; including Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Ontario.

A Green Dog Christmas!

Mum and I are pretty religious about being green - the environmentally friendly way of living. We've put together our Raise a Green Dog Blog, which was inspired by our Green Dog Squidoo lens, to help other folks know how to green up their dog, and have a healthier and green lifestyle.

And this weekend, we put together a new Squidoo lens - A Green Dog Christmas! It provides a wealth of information on how you can help your pup and your family can have a more environmentally friendly holiday and be happier and healthier at the same time!

We'll be expanding on the information on how to have a green dog holiday over the coming weeks, and providing additional information, products, ideas, and more - so keep an eye out on our Raise a Green Dog blog!

Meet Rue!

This is Rue a 14 year old Britt also known as “Little Bits”. When she came to rescue she didn’t run; she just wandered around a fenced in area, not knowing how to act, not being confined in her kennel most of the time. She has improved each day and now runs and jumps. Her vet gave her a clean bill of health—good lungs and heart. She has trouble seeing and hearing but does her nose work! And, this little cutie doesn't need any sexy swimwear to attract the gentlemen, she does it on looks and personality!

Her rescue folks took her to agility class for moral support for her foster sister and brother but she ended up showing them by doing a small jump, and “L” shaped tunnel and the dog walk with some assistance. She surprised them all when she jumped into the back of the SUV unassisted! Rue has much joy to give. She’s a very special lady.

We found Rue currently being cared for by American Brittany Rescue, Inc., in Earlville, Illinois. American Brittany Rescue was formed in 1991 as a cooperative effort of Brittany owners, breeders, trialers, & fanciers who believe they have a responsibility not only for their own dogs and the dogs they produce, but for our breed as a whole.

Meet Frankie!

Frankie is estimated to be 8-10 years old. He is a tiny little fellow, weighing in around 12 lbs. Frankie needs love and guidance. His previous owners really let this little guy down. He was never neutered and when he began 'marking', he was tossed outside. They never provided even basic medical care for Frankie. After coming to KPR, he had to have 13 teeth extracted, but this seems to be no big deal to Frankie. He loves his soft food.

His foster home reports that he is doing well and describes him as a very mild mannered little guy who gets along great with other pets and children. He gets along so well with everyone, he'd have a great time on one of those Disney vacations. Most nights he sleeps in bed with a 14 year old human and a min pin.

We found Frankie currently being cared for by Kentuckiana Pug Rescue in Louisville, Kentucky. Kentuckiana Pug Rescue is a volunteer based, 501(c)(3) non-profit rescue organization committed to helping all needy Pugs in the states of Indiana and Kentucky. They work to find both abandoned, as well as surrendered Pugs, loving, forever homes in which they can live out the rest of their lives.

Meet Jamison!

This handsome senior boy was found running stray and taken into a shelter in west central Indiana. Jamison is a handsome older gentleman -- we are guessing is is maybe 9 years old. He is good tempered and loves attention. He hopes someone will like an older guy and give him a home for the rest of his days. With a bath and a brushing he will be gorgeous, and with the TLC he deserves he most assuredly has a lot of good years of love left to give!

Jamison is young at heart. He has no known health issues and is looking for someone to call his own in his later years.

We found Jamison currently being cared for by Northern Lights Sled Dog Rescue in Indianapolis, Indiana. Northern Lights Sled Dog Rescue is a group of committed and experienced rescuers who came together because they wanted to stay true to our shared passion and priorities and keep their rescue about helping dogs.

Meet Coco!

Coco is a beautiful, friendly and loving Chocolate lab mix. She gets along with most dogs but there are some that rub her the wrong way. She loves people and she is a smart girl. I would not adopt her to a family with small children because she gets to excited and is to curious. She tends to be a little to rough and ends up scaring them. A family with teenagers would be great though.

She loves to play, walks well on a leash and she likes to cuddle. Coco would do best in a dog savvy home, her energy level is not hyper but she is very active, an individual that wants a running partner or a family that wants to do agility training would find Coco an ideal companion.

We found Coco currently being cared for by Ozark Humane Society in Harrison, Arkansas. Their main goal is to make the best possible match between the dog and the adopter.

Meet Coco!

This is Coco. And we don't know anything about her.

She is currently being taken care of by the Humane Society/SPCA of Nelson County in Lovingston, Virginia. They are a 501 C non-profit organization incorporated in 1981 and dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals and the promotion of humane and kind treatment of animals. They support spaying, neutering and adoption of animals to control overpopulation, and work with area veterinarians to spay/neuter all animals that we rescue, and to provide financial assistance to residents for spaying/neutering of pets.

The Almost Home Pet Adoption Center, their no-kill shelter, opened April 25, 2004. The Adoption Center, staffed by volunteers and funded completely through donations, houses up to 25 dogs and 25 cats. The dogs live in dorm rooms, one or two to a room, with wall murals painted by area artists and hemi-sync music from a sound system donated by the Monroe Institute.

Meet Coco!

Coco is an adorable pit bull terrier mix. She is about six months to one year old. When it comes to personality, it is difficult not to love her. She is constantly wagging her tail, and loves to give kisses! She is a complete sweetheart. She is also quiet and gentle, and loves to snuggle up. She gets along well with everyone and everything - cats, dogs, children, you name it! She has a wonderful disposition.

We met Coco through PAWS, the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society. They are a donor-funded division of PACCA, the Philadelphia Animal Care and Control Association. PACCA is the City of Philadelphia's contracted animal control shelter. Taking in just about 30,000 animals per year, it is the highest volume animal shelter in the region.

PAWS is dedicated to saving the lives of Philadelphia’s homeless, abandoned and unwanted animals and is working to end the killing of healthy and treatable pets in the City of Philadelphia.

Meet Coco!

Meet the shamelessly silly Miss Coco! She is a blast!

She’s a 2 yr old, 42 pound Border Collie Mix and after meeting her you'd never guess her story. Coco was a neglect case pulled from a 10 foot by 6 foot cesspool. Her previous owner only provided necessities such as food and water, and even that was inconsistent.

Coco and her sister were not permitted out of their kennel, but when and if they did get out, they were chased down by other dogs. This was very intimidating for Coco and she learned to fear other dogs. However, Coco has successfully melded into a pack of four and is loving her new lifestyle inside a warm home. She now understands pack etiquette and has evolved into a beautiful personality. Coco would best fit into a home without cats or small dogs. She's truly a looker!

We found Coco currently being cared for by Save Ohio Strays in Wadsworth, Ohio. They are a nonprofit corporation organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes of companion animal rescue, care and placement of those destined for premature euthanasia.

Meet Coco!

This photo was taken before Coco shed his winter coat. He isn't so fluffy now, but just as handsome.

This exuberant guy really loves other dogs and is so great around kids. When at a dog park with one of our members recently, he just played and played with everyone, small and large and licked the faces of kids, but moved away when they told him no. So is a great family pup!

He is one year old; an owner surrender since he was too much and too large for the older lady that adopted him. This guy is very playful and loves people and likes to play fetch. He loves to play and play and play with other dogs! He isn't housetrained yes, and when he was approached by a cat at the vet's, he seemed interested, but not aggressive towards it.

We found Coco currently being cared for by Jemez Valley Animal Amigos in Jemez Springs, New Mexico. They a shelterless shelter and dependent upon foster homes to help us care for our "lost and found" animals. When they rescue any animal, they get an immediate vet checkup, appropriate vaccinations and altering if old enough in order to make them ready for adoption.

Interesting dog facts!

There's a lot to us dogs. No really, we're a pretty interesting species!

Mum and I were surfing around the Internet the other day and found out some facts about dogs that we didn't know! Some we did, but some we didn't.

Did you know that nose prints are used to identify dogs, just like humans use fingerprints? Or that, dogs have about 100 different facial expressions, most of them made with the ears?

We found out so much stuff about us dogs that we put together a Squidoo lens of little known and interesting facts about dogs. Check it out and we hope you enjoy it! And remember, this stuff is difficult to verify, it's just for fun!

Meet Scout!

Scout is all grown up and one year old. He needs some obedience training, but he's a sweet loving boy who is very affectionate.

His three brothers left Collie Haven for their new homes some time ago, so Scout is longing to find his forever family, too!

We found Scout currently being cared for by Southland Collie Rescue in Brea, California.

For more information about Scout, click here!

Meet Henry!

Henry is a lot of spunk in a little 16lb package. He is seven years old and plays fetch like a pro, returning a Frisbee or a tennis ball and then play some defensive soccer too! After some fun and playtime, it is time to snuggle and nap.

Henry is UTD on all shots, neutered, crate trained and housebroken. Henry also has a unique characteristic-he has no fur on his pointy black ears. He has the smoothest sleek black ears! Almost velvet.

We found Henry currently being cared for by Midwest Boston Terrier Rescue in Kent City, Michigan. They are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We are funded entirely by donations and run by the hearts of our Volunteers who are dedicated to rescuing Boston Terriers from shelters/individuals in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin and finding them permanent homes.

Meet Laguna!

Laguna is a lab mix and she is full of vim and vigor. She is a playful, high-energy dog who loves to play fetch and run. She is affectionate and fun and will gladly sit for treats, an indication that she would excel in a positive obedience class with her new humans. Laguna is well suited to an active household of adults and children over age 10. At six years of age, Laguna qualifies for our Senior Companion program for adopters over age 60.

We found Laguna currently being cared for by The Golden Gate Labrador Retriever Rescue, Inc. (GGLRR). They are a nonprofit tax-exempt corporation. The corporation is organized to:

  • Encourage and promote responsible dog ownership and reduce the abuse and neglect of unwanted Labrador Retrievers through rehabilitation and adoption.
  • Promote the humane treatment of Labrador Retrievers and accept for placement unwanted Labrador Retrievers, care for them medically, spay/neuter them and place them in caring homes.

It's National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week!

From the AnimalSheltering.org, a program of the Humane Society of the United States:

In 1996, The HSUS launched National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week (based on an idea from the Capital Humane Society in Lincoln, Nebraska). This campaign was designed to acknowledge and promote the invaluable role shelters play in their communities and to increase public awareness of animal welfare issues and shelter services.

During National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, the first full week of every November, The HSUS promotes and celebrates animal shelters across the country through media and public outreach.

You can find materials here to help you celebrate National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week in your community. The materials also can be customized to promote the important role of shelters any time of the year.

Since I'm a shelter dog, rescued by the Southside Animal Shelter here in Indianapolis, I thought that this week I would show my appreciation to my shelter by taking a few toys, and other needed items to them.

Here are a few things you can do to thank and show your appreciation to your shelter, or a shelter near you:
  • Gather up some supplies, like cleaners, newspapers, old towels, blankets, dog shampoo, pet toys, treats, and other items. Then take them down to donate to your local shelter/rescue. They always need items to help them care for the animals.
  • Give of your time to help shelter pets feel more comfortable during their stay - go and walk the pups and pet the kitties. They will love you for it.
  • Send a card or letter and tell the shelter workers and volunteers that you appreciate all the hard work they do.
  • Donate funds to help the shelter continue their good work.
  • Find your next pet and adopt from your local shelter or rescue. Great pups, kitties and other animals come from shelters - just ask me, or my kittie brother Wiggy!
  • Consider being a foster parent for animals in need!
  • Help transport pets that need to be relocated to shelters and rescues.
  • Donate some office supplies, like printers, paper, old computers, phones and more to help keep them running more easily, inexpensively and smoothly.
  • Sponsor an animal in need at a shelter and alleviate some of the expenses of spay/neuter and vaccinations.
  • Are you good with people? Volunteer at your shelter to help run events, put out newsletters, fund raise, and help them get the word out about the animals in need.
  • Or contact your local shelter/rescue and ask how you can help.
And Happy National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week!

Meet Harold!

Harold was born 2-13-05 to a 45 lb. mixed lab mom and appx. 50 lb. mixed dad of terrier ancestry. He has the most beautiful "terrier" face. He weighs appx 65 lbs with a chunky, muscular look more "terrier" than lab.

Harold is a polite, well-mannered guy who would appreciate a calm home-life. He is already neutered, and has had all his shots. A fenced yard is required.

Harold would make excellent single dog for person/couple, as he is unsure about other dogs/cats, and has no experience with children, and you'd have a lot of fun with all the space to run at an Outer Banks rentals vacation home. He is a sweet gentle loving guy that deserves the same from his family.

We found Harold currently being cared for by the Jasper County Humane Society in Monticello, Georgia. They are a 501-c-3 non-profit organization with a small group of volunteers who give their time and assistance where needed. All the animals are fostered in the homes of the volunteers.

Meet Coco!

This photos were taken before Coco shed his winter coat. He isn't so fluffy now, but just as handsome!

This exuberant guy really loves other dogs and is so great around kids. When at a dog park with one of our members recently, he just played and played with everyone, small and large and licked the faces of kids, but moved away when they told him no.

He is one year old - an owner surrender since he was too much and too large for the older lady that adopted him. This guy is very playful and loves people and likes to play fetch. He loves to play and play and play with other dogs!

We met Coco through Jemez Valley Animal Amigos, in Jemez Springs, New Mexico. They are a shelterless shelter and depend upon foster homes to help are for "lost and found" animals.

Meet Thor!

Thor is a very sweet 12-18 month old male Bullmastiff. He is going to be quite tall, but still has a lot of filling out to do. He loves to please and would do well with training for obedience and agility.

He gets a long good with other dogs and tolerates cats. He has been great a 7 year old and really is sweet with her. He is full of puppy energy still and loves to play. This young boy would make a great addition to a home with kids and other pets. He is house and crate trained.

We met Thor through American Bullmastiff Rescue in Lewis Center, Ohio. The purpose of the American Bullmastiff Association Rescue Service is to find homes for unwanted Bullmastiffs that we find either in shelters or occasionally abandoned at vets or take in as owner surrenders from people whose lifestyle has changed. We are not a placement service for our members' unwanted or returned dogs.

Meet Elvis!

Elvis has been in his foster home a couple of weeks now. He is in a home with multiple kids, cats, and dogs and does just wonderful!! Even though Elvis is 9 years old, he still enjoys his daily walks with all his buddies. He is a “low rider” so homes without a lot of stairs would be best for him.

Elvis has proven to be such a loving, laid-back sweetie who is house-trained and has no need for crating. He found his way to GABR when the family in his life were divorcing and going their separate ways. He seemed to be a little upset the first few days but now is as good as new.

We met Elvis through Guardian Angel Basset Rescue Inc., in Dwight, Illinois. Guardian Angel Basset Rescue, Inc. rescues Bassets from abusive and unwanted situations. Our organization gives Bassets a second chance to live as they were intended - as someone's best animal friend.
