Meet Stringer!

This is Stringer. He is a 4 year old dachshund mix. He came to the SPCA in March of 2008.

He was formerly adopted by a nice family, but they brought him back because he didn’t get along with their two toddlers. He is a very good boy and would do well in a home with children over 10. He walks well on a leash and never tries to run away.

Stringer likes to be petted on the head and belly. He needs to go to a home where he can get lots of exercise because, as you can see, he could stand to lose a pound or two! And you may want to think about getting some floor mats to put near the door, always a good practice with dogs to keep the house clean. So, do you want to be his new exercise buddy? Check out Stringer!

We met Stringer through the Central Texas SPCA, A No-Kill Animal Shelter, in Leander, Texas.

Meet Gypsy!

Gypsy is a chocolate labrador retriever, doberman pincher mix.

Not much is known about her, but we found her currently being cared for by the folks at Happy Endings Dog Rescue in Hewitt, Texas. Happy Endings Dog Rescue is a no kill animal rescue facility. Their specialty is in finding good homes for many breeds unwanted by many shelters and rescues including Rottweiler and Pit Bulls.

They believe that animals, as living creatures are entitled to a quality life, respect and compassion. Their mission is to provide shelter, food, medical treatment and love to our community’s animals that are abandoned, unwanted, or otherwise in need. They want to instill in their community an awareness of the animals whose world we share; encouraging and promoting responsible pet ownership.

We never euthanize an animal to make room for another, and we care for all those we take in until they are adopted.

Meet Mama Dog!

Mama Dog was rescued in 1999 along with her 2 feral pups -- Bobby and Briar. Bobby and Briar did not get exposed to humans at the critical time of their lives, so they are very fearful of new people. But Mama Dog is very sweet and not fearful and would love a home of her own.

She loves attention and will come up to you looking for a cookie or two or three. And I bet she would hang around the kitchen sink when your prepping dinner, just to get a good taste :) She would love to find a forever home so she could be their couch buddy!

We met Mama Dog through Straydog Inc. in Gun Barrel City, Texas.

Meet Isis!

In honor of Deaf Dog Awareness Week, we are showcasing some amazing pups looking for their new furever home. Just because their ears don't work, doesn't mean they can't make great new best friends and amazing family members! Learn more about Deaf Dogs!

Isis is an extremely gregarious young dog. She is especially fond of cuddling and going out on long runs. Isis gets along with dogs and cats and lives with both, 3 dogs and 2 cats, in her foster home. She is a wonderful jogging partner and has the stamina for long runs, plus she is great on the leash.

She is very curious, there is much she wants to see and do. She is eager to please and very people-oriented. A wonderful dog all around, someone to take with you wherever you go!

We met Isis through the Deaf Dog Education Action Fund. Their mission is to provide education and funding for the purpose of improving and/or saving the lives of deaf dogs. We are a non-profit organization founded to speak on behalf of and assist in the betterment of life for deaf dogs everywhere.

Meet Lil' Girl!

In honor of Deaf Dog Awareness Week, we are showcasing some amazing pups looking for their new furever home. Just because their ears don't work, doesn't mean they can't make great new best friends and amazing family members! Learn more about Deaf Dogs!

Lil' Girl may not be able to hear, but she is the happiest, sweetest puppy in the world! Lil' Girl has graduated from obedience school and has been sign trained. She sign responds to sit, stay, lay, stand, come and all - she is patient and loves to learn. She also has a great attention span.

She loves small pieces of chicken hot dogs or cheese for rewards! She heels perfectly (and loves to go on long walks right by your side), she loves the beach and to run through the water (she also loves running through high grass!)

Lil' Girl is great with little kids -- but like any dog (hearing or deaf, big or small), she should be supervised: she just gets so excited around them, she could topple a child over unintentionally. She is masterful at fetch and catch, and after long days will sit for hours with a good bone or 'kong' with a little peanut butter in the bottom. She is the perfect dog for a happy, peaceful, loving home like yours! Oh and since she's a white dog, you may want to look into a walk in bath to keep her nice a clean, BOL!

We met Basil through the Deaf Dog Education Action Fund. Their mission is to provide education and funding for the purpose of improving and/or saving the lives of deaf dogs. We are a non-profit organization founded to speak on behalf of and assist in the betterment of life for deaf dogs everywhere.

Meet Dinah!

In honor of Deaf Dog Awareness Week, we are showcasing some amazing pups looking for their new furever home. Just because their ears don't work, doesn't mean they can't make great new best friends and amazing family members! Learn more about Deaf Dogs!

Dinah is extremely friendly and a very loving dog. She just loves to be around people (she would prefer to be an only dog, but she is great with cats), so they won't need any life insurance quotes, BOL! Her favorite toy is a ball, but she should not be allowed to play with it indoors because she tosses it up for herself and can get pretty rambunctious.

The signs that she knows are: sit, lay down, good girl, go to the bathroom it's not play time ( L with left hand), come in the house (sweeping motion with your hand), stay ( right palm of hand towards nose), and get your ball (thumbs and forefingers formed into a circle).

Dinah has a very sweet spirit and would be a wonderful companion. She is in a foster home. The perfect home would be someone who has a 5 - 6' fenced in yard, someone who has no other pets and is familiar with deaf dogs, and someone who is familiar with the breed. Also someone who would take the time to throw a ball for Dinah, she LOVES TO PLAY BALL!

We met Dinah through the Deaf Dog Education Action Fund. Their mission is to provide education and funding for the purpose of improving and/or saving the lives of deaf dogs. We are a non-profit organization founded to speak on behalf of and assist in the betterment of life for deaf dogs everywhere.

Meet Rowan!

In honor of Deaf Dog Awareness Week, we are showcasing some amazing pups looking for their new furever home. Just because their ears don't work, doesn't mean they can't make great new best friends and amazing family members! Learn more about Deaf Dogs!

Rowan is gentle, friendly and loves to give kisses. He plays with a kong or a ball and will throw it into the air and watch it bounce. Rowan gets along with everyone and in the right family will be a treasure. He needs a patient and loving environment. We are working on sign language and so far he has learned "no", "down", "come" and is working on sit.

We met Rowan through the Deaf Dog Education Action Fund. Their mission is to provide education and funding for the purpose of improving and/or saving the lives of deaf dogs. We are a non-profit organization founded to speak on behalf of and assist in the betterment of life for deaf dogs everywhere.

Meet Petey!

In honor of Deaf Dog Awareness Week, we are showcasing some amazing pups looking for their new furever home. Just because their ears don't work, doesn't mean they can't make great new best friends and super family members! Learn more about Deaf Dogs!

Petey will do anything for a tennis ball. He loves them. He knows sit, come and sometimes stay. He likes to sleep under the covers. When you put him on his back and hold him like a baby, if you rub his tummy he will smile. He is a delight to watch.

We met Basil through the Deaf Dog Education Action Fund. Their mission is to provide education and funding for the purpose of improving and/or saving the lives of deaf dogs. Meet Dorianna!

In honor of Deaf Dog Awareness Week, we are showcasing some amazing pups looking for their new furever home. Just because their ears don't work, doesn't mean they can't make great new best friends and great family members! Learn more about Deaf Dogs!

Dorianna is a really happy-go-lucky girl. She has found a playmate in another female hound mix. When they are together they are two peas in a pod. Many of the rescue group's volunteers have learned some basic sign language for her so she is getting consistent messages. She really enjoys being with another dog. She is very smart as she is picking up cues and behaviors from the other dog.

Of course it would be great if these two girls could go together but certainly not mandatory. She is great with all people. The rescue has said no kids under 8 for reasons due to her deafness and perhaps the monitoring of the children in the home. They are not able to test her with small animals. However, due to her breed history they assume she would show interest and possibly give chase.

We met Dorianna through the Deaf Dog Education Action Fund. Their mission is to provide education and funding for the purpose of improving and/or saving the lives of deaf dogs. We are a non-profit organization founded to speak on behalf of and assist in the betterment of life for deaf dogs everywhere.

Meet Champ!

In honor of Deaf Dog Awareness Week, we are showcasing some amazing pups looking for their new furever home. Just because their ears don't work, doesn't mean they can't make great new best friends and family members! Learn more about Deaf Dogs!

Champ knows ASL, and should be the only dog in house or with smaller dogs since he gets spooked easily by not hearing bigger dogs. He is very food motivated, and loves his butt rubbed. Has been at the shelter since May and since he is big, deaf, and older is having a very hard time finding a home. He ended up at the shelter after his owners broke up and didn't want him anymore.

We met Champ through the Deaf Dog Education Action Fund. Their mission is to provide education and funding for the purpose of improving and/or saving the lives of deaf dogs. We are a non-profit organization founded to speak on behalf of and assist in the betterment of life for deaf dogs everywhere.

Meet Basil!

In honor of Deaf Dog Awareness Week, we are showcasing some amazing pups looking for their new furever home. Just because their ears don't work, doesn't mean they can't make great new best friend and be a wonderful addition to any family! Learn more about Deaf Dogs!

Basil, an Aussie, is amazingly intelligent and eager to please. His foster Mom has already taught him some touch commands, he picked them up in just a few minutes. If she taps him on the nose he sits, and if she brushes her hand down his chest he lays down. He comes when she stomps her foot on the floor. He walks perfectly on the leash right by her side.

She says she's never had such an intelligent dog, it's such a joy to train him. He could be on TV. Basil needs someone who has a lot of time to spend with him, maybe someone who works at home or a stay-at-home mom (or dad).

We met Basil through the Deaf Dog Education Action Fund. Their mission is to provide education and funding for the purpose of improving and/or saving the lives of deaf dogs. We are a non-profit organization founded to speak on behalf of and assist in the betterment of life for deaf dogs everywhere.

Meet Josie!

Josie is a one year and five month old Airedale Terrier! Josie was brought to the shelter when her family could no longer care for her. She is already spayed and has a microchip, so all she needs one more vaccination!

Josie is trained and knows how to sit and shake! Josie would be a great workout companion, so you won't have to go on those weight loss pills.

Stop by, meet and play with Josie today if you think she'd be a great fit for your family.

We met Josie through the Macon County Animal Control and Care Center in Decatur, Illinois.

Meet Chico!

Chico is a beautiful 2-year-old male Golden Retriever who is in search of a new home. Due to an unfortunate financial situation, Chico had to be surrendered by his original family.

He weighs in at a lean 65 pounds and his favorite possession is his tennis ball. He'll play with it with or without help. Like most goldens he is constantly trying to please people around him, and he loves to play.

Chico's previous family had four children, and he has been very friendly to the neighborhood kids. He hasn't had any problems in the house. We can comfortably leave him alone during the day without any concern. Chico's future family should be ready for some exercise. He has quite a bit of energy (typical of a 2 year old), and he needs to get daily exercise to be a happy boy.

We found Chico currently being cared for by Golden Bond Rescue of Oregon.

Meet Arthur!

Arthur is a beautiful coonhound, about 2 years old. He was a stray. He is good with other dogs, not sure on cats, and loves attention from the shelter staff.

Arthur is probably not a good hunting dog. Most of the time when the shelter gets in a coonhound it is because it does not hunt and the owner figures it is easier to leave it behind than to deal with it at home. (yes, some hunters do this, not all, but some.) Arthur needs to find a home soon because his time is limited in the shelter!

We found Arthur currently being cared for by the Humane Society of Madison County in London, Ohio.

Meet Honey!

Meet Honey! She is a Coonhound mix and is 10 - 12 yrs old (as of 7/2). She came to rescue as a stray a couple months ago. She was so thin, that she needed some TLC and to gain some weight before we put her up for adoption. Her puppies have found homes and she is now ready for one of her own.

She is a lovely girl with a wonderfully expressive face. She's a skinny one so definitely won't need any diet pills, BOL!!! She is a super sweet dog who just loves attention. She is ready to say hello to every one who is around. She is calm and well mannered.

Honey is social and just wants to hang out with people. She gets along well with other dogs. She has no issues with food or treats and is a tolerant girl. Honey deserves to be pampered and loved for the rest of her live. She would enjoy a quiet home where she can lay at your feet and give you lots of love.

We found Honey currently being cared for by the Paris Animal Welfare Society in Paris, Kentucky.

Meet Wookie!

Meet Wookie! He is a Briard mix, three years old. He's a bit of a big boy, weighing in at about 60 lbs. Even though he's a big boy, he sure won't need any best weight loss supplements, 'cause he's a healthy weight!

Wookie entered the shelter system on July 27th of this year, but not much more is known about him. We found him currently being cared for by Boxers and Buddies in Reno, Nevada. Boxers and Buddies is operated 100% by the help of volunteers. The volunteers spend their spare time helping dogs in need find new homes.

Meet Kake!

Beautiful Kake is about a year and a half old, according to the shelter, and as you can see, she is an incredibly gorgeous girl. Like Kobe, her best friend, she loves people. Both dogs underwent comprehensive temperament testing at the shelter, and she and Kobe both passed with flying colors. Neither showed the slightest sign of food or any other type of aggression though the testing can be provocative.

Kobe and Kake are very bonded, and need a home together. These are wonderful dogs just waiting for a home who will understand, appreciate and love them for the fantastic Malamutes they are! Do you have room in your home and heart for a big furry friend? They can go together or separately.

We found Kake (and Kobe) currently being cared for through a foster home with Northern Lights Sled Dog Rescue in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Meet Tiffany!

Tiffany came with her 8 other siblings from a breeder's yard. Fortunately 5 of them found a great home, and she is hoping these happy ending will happen to her soon! They're all born in Jan.30 2008, and now she weighs around 50-55lbs.

Tiffany is super sweet, happy and very smart. She gets along great with other dogs, and walks well on a leash. Even though she is not super-hyper dog at all, the moderate- sized yard with secured fencing, where she can enjoy quality time with family, would be a real plus! She is heartworm negative, has all current vaccinations/ dewormers and has been spayed.

We found Tiffany currently being cared for by the Friends of Gonzales Animal Shelter in Gonzales, Texas.

Meet Tobi!

Tobi, Tobi, Tobi! This neutered, young German Shepherd mix is absolutely followed by a black cloud. We need to change his name to Jinx! He was first adopted as a tiny little guy by a terrible owner who didn't teach him a thing and then dumped him back at the shelter because he was too much to handle! DUH, wonder why that was?! Then he was adopted by someone who vowed to spend time with him, but now they are moving to that far away land of No Dogs that we hear of so often, so poor Tobi has been dumped again!

Tobi needs a committed owner to share life with. Doesn't seem too much to ask! If you are truly serious about adopting a great dog, visit Tobi! He's neutered and vaccinated and ready to go! He Just needs a good human to adopt him and show him that he can count on someone to be there for him!

We found Tobi currently being cared for by Pasadena Animal Control and Adoption in Pasadena, Texas.

Meet Roxie!

Roxy is a tri color darling Corgi! Roxie, can be vocal, busy, happy and loving and also can have selective hearing! She has a very whimsical personality.

This girl needs a home that knows this breed and has a secure fenced yard. Adult home or one with a kind older child would be best. She is approx 7-9 months old and approx 20lbs. Seems to like other cats and dogs. Has kept her area clean so appears to be housetrained with supervision.

Roxie loves to play in water she just went to the doggie dip and seems to prefer the water dish versus a huge pool, but she loved seeing all the other dogs, fantastic girl!

We found Roxie currently being cared for by Agape Fosters in Reinbeck, Iowa.

Meet Bonita!

This is Bonita, She is about 12 pounds of silly!

Best estimate is that she is a Rat Terrier/Corgi mixed breed. She has the markings and head of a Rat Terrier, but the legs and ears of the Corgi. She seems to display some of the temperaments of those two breeds as well, but as with any mixed animal with an unknown history, it is purely a guess!

Bonita loves to go for walks, car rides, playing fetch and snuggle! She really is a great multi purpose dog. Very laid back if needed, but always ready to play! She is a really sweet little dog that craves your attention, and is quick to remind you to keep petting her if you stop! She does well with other dogs and cats, and seems to like children as well. Everyone that meets her instantly falls in love with her gregarious personality.

We found Bonita currently being cared for by Kalamazoo Animal Rescue in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Meet Reina!

Reina is seven months old, born on November 18, 2008. She is up-to-date on all medicals, spayed and chipped She is your typical Bull Terrier puppy. She is housebroken and readily whines or scratches at the door to let you know when it's time for a potty break. She readily accepts crate time with no barking, whining or scratching.

She already knows to sit for a treat. She is learning "leave it" and "drop it" but the key is to catch it in time! Being a pup, any home will need to be "puppy-proofed" as she loves to chew.

Reina is very cuddly and loves to sit beside you or in your lap if you're willing. Loves everyone she meets but can be a bit overzealous for young children. Expect that to moderate through training and as she ages. She's a "big game hunter" when it comes to play. She loves to run around the yard carrying the biggest sticks (actually downed branches), buckets, 30 gallon trash cans, hose reels, and more, doing lap after lap around the yard. She loves to play tug and chase with other dogs, but at this point her play time must be monitored until she understands what acceptable play behavior is.

We found Reina currently being cared for by Blue Ridge Bull Terrier Club Inc., in Centreville, Virginia.

For more information about Reina, click here!

This little guy is a miracle. Cola came to rescue from a very long way after waiting almost 2 years and suffering a year of isolation, starvation and neglect. To have made it this far and to have managed to remain such an incredibly sweet, loving, and such a grateful and happy little dog seems like a true miracle. Here is Cola's story.

Cola has needed a great deal of vetting to help him overcome the neglect he suffered and will continue to need more help.
