Meet Peaches!

Peaches is the product of a Ridgeback mix mom. She is one of 6 puppies found in the woods nearby the rescue. Peaches personality is vivacious. She is loving, playful, and inquisitive. She loves to chase squirrels. She is a little more aloof and not "cuddly" like her littermates. Peaches shows caution, not to be perceived as timidness.

She and her 2 sisters, Coco and Lil Red have the most beautiful amber eyes that just melt your heart. She has received all vaccinations, rabies, and has been spayed. Peach has been on heartworm preventative since a puppy. She is housebroken, leash trained, and loves her treats. Her estimated date of birth is 7-15-04. Her weight as of 8-1-08 is 54 lbs.

Meet Gary!

This beautiful guy is named Gary. He is a 2-3 year old Norwegian Elkhound that was found as a stray. Gary weighs about 45 pounds. This is one sweet boy. When he first came to the shelter, he was a bit afraid, and didn't know how to walk on a leash. Now, however, he is doing great.

You can tell that he may have been struck in the past, as he will sometimes flinch when you reach for him. But, his rescuers say that will get better and better with kind treatment. Sometimes, when you walk up to him, he will give you his paw, without even being asked. Gary is good with other dogs and with cats, too.

We found Gary currently being cared for by the Caroline County Humane Society, Inc., in Ridgely, Maryland.

Meet Dandy!

We're turning this blog post over to Dandy!!! Dandy, speak!!!

"Hi, my name is Dandy and I'm five years old. I am super sweet and have pretty good manners. I will paw for attention, and will pull on lead, but those are pretty minor things compared to what some of the other doggies try to get away with. I am very friendly with men, as my former home was just me, Amber, and Dad. Women are okay, too.

I am starting to show my playful side, but am on restricted activity until after I get the okay from the Dog-ter to interact with the others. I have shown a strong affinity for treats, and I take them with a not-so-gentle mouth. My foster Mom says we'll be working on that, too, as she has grown attached to her fingers and she needs them more than I do.

I've not yet been tested on cats. I ride well, but I do want to be a lap dog even in the car, so seat belting, tethering, or crating is best for safety reasons.

I am always up for some lovings. When I get more freedom, my foster mom will better assess me. "

We met Dandy through Save Our Setters Inc., in Memphis, Tennessee.

Meet CindiLou!

CindiLou was born in early December 2008. She came into rescue malnourished, scared, shy and extremely small for a corso. Her improper nutrition from an early age is probably the cause of her stunted growth. This little girl is under 40# when she should be double that size at her age.

She makes up for her small size with a big personality. CindiLou is a lovable little girl who bonds like crazy glue once she knows you. She's great with dogs and wonderful with people who give her the patience she needs to warm up. Everyone who meets CindiLou falls in love instantly and you don't even need POS systems to adopt her!

We met CindiLou through Cane Corso Rescue in Monroe, New Jersey.

Meet Emmy!

"Emmy" is a stunning, and very unusual, 7 pound, 10 month old, female mixed breed girl. Best guess is she is a long haired chihuahua/bichon mix, or a long haired chihuahua/shih tzu mix.

Emmy is excellent with other dogs in her foster home, rides well in the car, loves to be held and snuggled with, and adores sleeping the bed at night with her humans. Emmy is a little timid, but is thriving in her current foster home with love and attention.

We found Emmy currently being cared for by Westie/Scottie Rescue of Martinsville, in Martinsville, Indiana.

Meet L.C.!

This adorable little guy was found running the streets and a TARA volunteer took him in. L.C. was in bad condition when he came to rescue, but they nursed him back to health. Look at him now! He's a real little prince!

Who can only imagine what kind of life he led before he was taken into TARA but its all over now.

L.C. has put his ordeal behind and is ready to adopt a new family that will love him forever. This sweetheart is looking for a home that has a doggy door or where he wouldn't be left alone for more than 3 hours.

He is only about 15 pounds, but what makes him even more special besides his pretty black coat and adorable face is the fact that he has no ear canals... which of course means that he is deaf. But have no fear, this little guy can communicate with you just fine with his beautiful brown eyes and wiggly body and tail!!

We found L.C. currently being cared for by The Animal Rescue Alliance (T.A.R.A.)
Independence, Missiouri.

Meet Fuyu!

"Fuyu," meaning Winter in Japanese, is probably one of the cutest foster pups her foster mum has ever had here.

Born on 8/17 to a purebred Bull Terrier mom and an unknown dad, she is 8 weeks and ready for a new home. She is happy and outgoing. She has been well socialized but still needs to work on typical puppy things.

We found Fuyu currently being cared for by a foster family with Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus in Barrington, Illinois.

For more information about Fuyu, click here!

Meet Mickey!

This little Mickey is only 10 pounds. He is 5 years old and he is the sweetest thing this side of sugar. All he wants is a lap to rest on, a bed where he can sleep next to his human, and a table to lie under.

He'd like a fenced yard to play in with another small dog and a stay at home mom to make it all come together. In return you will have his forever devotion and the sloppiest kisses ever. Mickey does not care for men and children.

Mickey is located in Wichita, Kansas. He is heartworm negative, on preventative, neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on all vaccinations. Keep in mind that the rescue prefers to place dogs within driving distance of where they are being fostered. If someone from outside the local area is approved for adoption, they must be willing to fly in to get the dog and that can only happen if the dog is stable enough to travel in the cabin with the passenger.

We met Mickey through American Brussels Griffon Rescue Alliance in Chicago, Illinois.

With lots of TLC and treatments, he is just great. He needs heartworm prevention monthly, but now is in very good health. He meets the rescue's special needs criteria, so he will have a reduced adoption fee.

Meet Millie!

Millie is an adorable girl who has unfortunately been starved and frightened in her past. She is quite nervous, so she needs a home with lots of love and patience!

She also has a sibling in the rescue's care named Spot. It would be wonderful if they could be placed together as they depend on one another for security. The rescue group would adopt both of these sweet dogs for one adoption fee, just to keep them together.

They feel that once Millie or Spot learn to trust their new family, they won’t have a reason to be scared anymore. They just want someone to love them, and want to give their love back!

We found Millie currently being cared for by Noah's Arc, Inc., in Talbott, Tennessee.

Meet Doodle!

Doodle is a young male dog of medium size. He looks like he could be a mix of Sussex or some other spaniel type and retriever, and he's believed to be about a year and a half old at this time.

He's got a soft and wavy chocolate coat that will require regular brushing. He's friendly and sweet and pretty gentle but you do have to take your time with him, and quietly and slowly let him know that everything is okay and you are his friend. He doesn't like to be approached or handled very quickly. He's sensitive at times when touched and he might not be the best choice for a family with small children.

Doodle does seem to really like walking on leash, although he'll need some work and he may be a great companion for an adult looking for a nice walking companion. He's a very eye catching dog who has a medium energy level.

We found Doodle currently being cared for by B.A.R.K. (Bandit's Adoption & Rescue of K-9s) in Ashland, Virginia.

Meet Peppermint Pattay!

Pattay is about 10 weeks old now, a Chocolate Labrador Retriever, Chesapeake Bay Retriever Mix. She's spayed and up-to-date on her shots.

She is living in a foster home now. Pattay walks well on a leash, is crate trained, learning house manners and house training. She's so young she won't have to learn how to lose belly fat, that's fur sure. She is very well behaved and laid back for her age.

We found Peppermint Pattay currently being cared for by the Animal Resource Foundation Inc., in Chester, Maryland.

For more information about Peppermint Pattay, click here!

We found Geb currently being cared for by the Humane Society of Scott County Indiana in Scottsburg, Indiana.

Meet Cooper!

This little guy is Copper. He's a 2 year old brown and white neutered male who is an escape artist so he needs a very secure backyard with a five to six foot wood fence. He loves to play with other dogs but doesn't like cats.

He is pretty much housebroken and great with kids. Copper is a fairly small beagle--less than 20 pounds, although his foster home is working on fattening him up a bit. He's such a sweet boy and just wants to please. He's looking for that special home that will keep him safe. Please call today for this little man!

We met Cooper through Colorado Beagle Rescue.

Meet Shadow!

Shadow was rescued out of a neglectful situation. Two young kids owned him and loved him until they got a new puppy. Then they decided he wasn't worth their time anymore. He got no attention except when he was tied on a short chain two times a day.

We let him come live here. Shadow loves to go for car rides (especially if you go through the drive thru and grab him a burger). He enjoys playing with other dogs and actually helped 'save' his girlfriend, another foster dog, Phoenix. (a dog had come up to Phoenix and started attacking her and Shadow grabbed the dog's back leg and tried to pull the dog off of Phoenix).

All Shadow wants is a nice play where he can be outside most of the time (on nice days of course) or hanging out with you. He really doesn't like to be in his kennel but with enough exercise (and a nice comfy bed) he'll curl up and go to sleep. This boy does need an experienced bully owner who will be the pack leader of the house. Shadow is housebroken, good with other dogs, and cats! He knows 'sit,' 'down,' and 'shake.'

We met Shadow through There's No Place Like Home Dog Rescue in Rockbridge, Ohio.

For more information about Shadow, click here!

Meet Bubblegum!

It's a real challenge to figure out what breed Bubblegum is. She is a young female (under 1 year old), medium size and has a very pretty red brindle coat, with wire hair.

She has the appearance of a standard Schnauzer, but her color, though very pretty, is puzzling. She's a silly puppy with a friendly nature. Loves treats and is very responsive. Very smart too!

We found Bubblegum currently being cared for by Halfway Home Pet Adoptions in Kansas City , Missouri.

Meet King!

King is a 1 1/2 yr old purebred Bernese Mountain Dog. He is active, playful and affectionate. He is housetrained, comes when called, knows sit and (usually) down, walks politely on a leash. King settles quickly in the house, and is not destructive.

Though shy initially around strangers, he does warm up quickly, especially with treats! He gets along fine with other dogs/puppies and cats/kittens. And he is good with either men or women, but he gets a little nervous around the antics of wild young children. He can also be a little protective of those he loves deeply.

We found King currently being cared for by Thirdtyme Rescue in Mount Gilead, Ohio.

For more information about King, click here!

Meet Ladd!

Ladd is a sweet and playful 4 year old male Sheltie. His foster Mom provided an update -- here is what she said:

Ladd loves, loves, loves to play fetch, but he will also lie right next to his foster mom while she is reading or working on the computer. He is fine with cats (given a little time to get used to them). He had three visting cats who took over his house (and even ate his food). During the food-stealing incident, he backed away from the cat and looked to his foster mom for help (which she provided...) In general, the cats weren't so thrilled with him politely sniffing them, ("We are not dogs, so do not sniff at us" they said) but otherwise they got along fine.

He hasn't been around small kids much, but he is a sweet and gentle dog who is likely to be fine around well-behaved children. He loved being petted by 4 or 5 ten year old neighbor children (all at once) and was sad when they had to go home.

He was an owner release and was very shy when he first came to Rescue, but he has climbed out of his shell and now thinks everyone is his friend, greets his foster mom with a wildly wagging tail, and runs to get his throw toy.

Ladd would be a great addition to a family that spent time playing with him, teaching him new tricks, and hanging out with him. He wakes up every morning and looks at his foster mom as if to say, "What fun thing are we going to do today?"

He is housebroken and up to date on shots and heartworm preventative. When he first came to Rescue in July, 2009, his coat was a mess, so we opted to shave him and give him a clean start. His coat is growing back nicely into soft, curly fur. This Ladd is really quite the handsome young guy!
We found Ladd currently being cared for by the D/FW Sheltie Rescue Inc., in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas.

Meet Otto!

Otto is 2 years old, 36lbs, happy, playful and loves toys!! He is a wonderful dog - very friendly and affectionate with everyone he meets!

He has lots of energy and enjoys himself out in the play yard of the shelter where he was rescued. Otto ended up there as a stray dog that no one came to pick up. He has passed all his temperament tests, and can be adopted immediately!!

We found Otto currently being cared for by the folks at The Dog Shack in Forest Knolls, California.

Meet Kofi!

Kofi is a super-sweet boy who we picked up from Chicago Animal Care and Control in January. We were drawn to his goofy personality as much as his majestic size! We're happy to report that Kofi is now heartworm-negative and ready to find a new home!

Sweet Kofi is a big boy at around 100 lbs and very strong on leash! Due to his previous exercise restrictions, he has not had many long leash walks and is still learning how to behave properly on leash. He is also entering our "School's for the Dogs" training course starting in mid-June to polish his training skills! His adoptive person or family should be prepared to continue his training.

Kofi is dog-friendly but thinks cats would make a tasty treat. He would be suitable for a home with older (sturdier) kids - his size makes him a little bit intimidating for tiny tots!

We found Kofi currently being cared for by New Leash On Life Chicago in Chicago, Illinois.

For more information about Kofi, click here!

Meet Tate!

Tate is a very handsome little guy, around a year and a half to two years old and weighing 15 to 18 pounds. He's built like a dachshund (long haired, of course!), but his face looks like there's a terrier in my family tree somewhere!

He's a little shy around new people but, with love and patience, he warms up pretty soon. And I bet he would love a trip to one of those myrtle beach motels!

We met Tate through Lookin' For Love Animal Rescue in Rockport, Texas.

For more information about Tate, click here!

Meet MayBelle!

Mabel is a Bullmastiff, and what a cutie she is! Not much is known about her but we met her through West Memphis Animal Services in West Memphis, Arkansas.

The Humane Society of Eastern Arkansas receives no tax dollars or government funds. The HSEA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization operated solely by volunteers and dependent upon tax deductible public contributions. Without donations or membership dues, the HSEA would not be able to fulfill its mission in helping animals in need.

Meet Sarah!

According to the shelter, Sarah would like a night out at any local restaurant and she'd even order the crumbs under the table because she hasn't yet found a permanent place to share or have a meal or two. Eating at the shelter is a lonely event and not too appetizing. The food looks like multi colored pebbles of hard rock with some fake looking pasta thrown in. It's edible, though. Just not high on the list of great food for dogs suffering the stresses of shelter life.

But Sarah has grit and spunk and a will to thrive. She's a beautiful girl with a St. Bernard face and some boxer type eyes, some wings for ears and a big button nose. Her coat is soft like cashmere and wheaten color on her trunk. She's a love of a dog. She's adorable and adoring. People are her great passion and her loyalty is written all over her sweet body.

We found Sarah through Jackson Friends of Animal Shelter in Jackson, Mississippi.
