Meet Sir Max!

Sir Max is a 9 year old purebred English Cocker Spaniel who was surrendered to the Brooklyn shelter by his owner due to her own terminal illness. His owner was weeping hysterically at the time of his surrender.

From the expression on Max's face, it is clear that he continues to grieve for her as well. Sir Max came to us with a severe infection in one ear, which we initially thought might require surgery. Fortunately, his rescuers dermatologist has been successful in saving the ear, which was infected by multiple forms of highly resilient bacteria.

Sir Max is now a very healthy boy, although as an older dog he does have some stiffness in his joints, for which he is taking Cosequin. Sir Max would do best in an adult only home, perhaps with a single woman, as he is accustomed to being the center of his mom's world. Sir Max has been neutered, microchipped, is up-to-date on all shots, and has tested negative for heartworm.

We found Sir Max through Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue, Inc., in Flushing, New York.

Meet Snowman!

Snowman is about one year old and weights eight pounds.

Little Snowman is a shy guy. It seems he hasn't had much love in his short life, but we are sure someone can change that! I bet he would love to lay by your feet while you work, helping you organize your office and your office supplies! His rescuers are not sure of his breed, but are guessing he is a Long Haired Chihuahua mix or possibly a toy American Eskimo mix.

Snowman is current on his vaccinations, heartworm negative, neutered and microchipped, and should go to a home with no children under 5 years old.

We found Snowman through Forgotten Friends - Mixed Breed Rescue in Austin, Texas.

Meet Georgie!

Georgie is a sweet, loving boy. Even after a life of abuse he is still very gentle and trusting.

He’s a cute mix of Rottweiler and Pit Bull Terrier, though you would never know it by his size (he’s only about 50 pounds). Georgie has a mellow disposition; he equally loves a nice walk or cuddling up for a mid-day snooze. He loves a good belly rub and smiles from ear to ear when he is happy. He is about 7 or 8 years old, neutered and house broken.

Georgie is great on leash, respectful of furniture (never chews or jumps up), good with other dogs and gentle enough for a home with children of any age. Georgie’s face bears the scars from his abusive past, but his sweet eyes reveal his gentle soul. All he wants is a family to call his own.

We found Georgie through the The Kris Kelly Foundation in Beverly Hills, California.

Meet Gracie!

Gracie is about 9 months old, spayed, UTD on vaccinations. She was rescued from a high kill shelter, where her time was up and brought to rescue. Here's is what her rescuer note...

"What a sweetie this girl is. When I approached her cage, she came right to the front, stood on her hind feet, and put her front feet on the fence. She was quiet in her cage and out of it. She was happy and wagged her tail the entire time I was taking notes. She had good, non-threatening eye contact. She met 2 men, 4 women, and 1 young boy today, and liked everyone. She also met several other dogs and liked all of them."
Gracie is very playful and wants to play with everyone. Her fur is a little coarse in appearance, and she is a little thin and could work to build muscles a little. She is a sweetheart who enjoys people. She is approximately 19-20" tall, and her weight is estimated at 40-50#. She has a sweet expressive face and also in her eyes.

We found Gracie through Help for Homeless Pets in Billings, Montana.

This big sweet girl really needs someone to give her the TLC she deserves and certainly doesn't need any quick weight loss tips. She responds to attention and will be a wonderful companion for the special person who opens their heart and home to her. Are you that person? Blackie is waiting for you to come get her and take her home.

We met Blackie through Animal Angels in Dallas, Texas.

She likes to chew on toys and chase them, but hasn't learned how to fetch yet. Ashton is house broken and working on basic commands and crate training. She has a moderate energy level and will do best in a home that can provide lots of affection and exercise. Oh, that face will definitely be a great substitute for the best wrinkle cream, putting a huge smile on your face!. Ashton is currently fostered in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Meet Gilbert!

Gilbert is approximately 2 years old. He is a neutered black and silver male Miniature Schnauzer weighing 17 pounds. He is current on his shots and is on heart worm preventative.

Gilbert is a wonderful little boy. He is both playful and loving. He does okay on a leash, but loves to run free full speed all around the yard, so a fenced yard is on his wish list. Gilly has not been tested with cats, but he is good with other dogs and would love to have a canine playmate. Gilbert should not go to a home with children who are not yet school age as he has a tendency to nip a little in a playful way. Gilbert is house trained and crate trained. He will sleep in a crate at night, but he would much rather bunk with a human. He is very well mannered in the bed and not a bed hog.

Gilbert is very anxious to get his food at meal times and gets so excited. He plays a little with toys and was very well behaved for his groom. He is also very good about being picked up. Outside he can be a bit of a tease and will sometimes need a little coaxing to come in out of the yard. When the sun is shining, he likes to sit or lie down in the grass sometimes when the other dogs are searching around the yard, but you won't have to worry about hemorrhoid treatment. Gilbert is not an alpha, but he is not shy either and has no trouble speaking up if there is a need for sharing.

Gilly comes when called and is very obedient as a rule. He seems to identify with Gilly more when he is called, but he is catching on to Gilbert too. He is not much of a tail wagger, but he likes to give little kisses on your nose. For a male, he is a gentleman and has good manners.

If you are looking for a sweet, smaller boy who is smart and obedient with lots of love to give, then maybe Gilbert is you guy!

We found Gilbert through Schnauzer Love Rescue Inc., in Birmingham, Alabama.

Meet Molly!

Molly is one of a kind. She adores all people, but would probably do better as an only pet. She's about 16 months old, loves to snuggle and chase frisbees.

Molly is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered

Meet Dempsey!

Dempsey is a big sweet lug of a dog. He has been neutered and is up to date on all of his vaccinations. He has completed his heartworm treatment, is heartworm negative and feeling fabulous! He is affectionate and likes to lie up against his human. He is very handsome and has funny asymmetrical ears. He has very pretty amber eyes that go all the way to his soul.

Dempsey is a fun dog. He likes to catch and fetch and chewing on bones. He even entertains himself with toys and balls. He enjoys sleeping and rolling on his back. He really likes kids, too. He’s a loving dog. He’s still a bit of youngster and doesn’t always appreciate his strength. He has learned a lot in his temporary home, including house training. He is very intent on getting what he wants and an experienced human companion would be ideal.

Dempsey is a super smart dog who is intense about what he’s doing. He would thrive in a situation where he could work during the day (even running with his human) and relax with the family at the end of the day. He would do well in a home with a child or children who would play with him with his toys and where he could curl up with them at night.

We found Dempsey through New Spirit 4 Aussie Rescue in Scottsville, Kentucky.

Meet Bunny!

Bunny is an owner surrender due to the economic times. She is a friendly girl and happy to see everyone. She loves to play with other dogs and gets along well with cats. She does have some submissive urination when she is excited. And she doesn't like it when another dog approaches her food bowl.

Her foster mom is working with her to work on the submissive urination. She is fine being in an exercise pen and is starting to get used to the crate. Bunny has had a couple of back episodes which required steriods and crate rest. Care should be taken when it comes to stairs and jumping up/down furniture. Want to know more about Bunny?

Holly is a healthy nine year old girl that came to rescue very scared and shy. She has come around a lot, but is looking for a loving and patient home that will give all the love and special attention that she deserves.

Adopting from Homeward Bound Pet Shelter includes a number of benefits in the adoption fee. All dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, on monthly flea & heart worm preventions, and micro chipped.

Meet Duke!

Duke is around four years old and weighs around 55lbs. He is a gorgeous dog who looks a lot like a Canaan, but his rescuers are not sure of his breed. He's super smart and has already completed on leash obedience training.

Duke is very loyal and can be a little cautious with new people. Once he gets to know you with some help from some treats, he's your buddy. Bet he would even work for moving service for treats, BOL! Duke would thrive in an active home.

We found Duke through the Pacific Coast Dog Rescue in Burbank, California.

Meet Sly Malone!

Sly Malone is one handsome German Shepherd/Doberman mix. In fact, he looks like a perfect 50/50 split between both breeds. He's neutered, approximately 1 1/2 years and weighs a sleek 78 lbs. He's medium energy and just a big, goofy puppy.

He's good on the leash and gets very excited to go outdoors, but once he's out, settles down pretty quickly. Sly loves people, is good with kids, not dog aggressive, in fact, he doesn't even seem that interested when dogs pass him by. He would make a great family pet!

We found Sly through Animal Advocates Alliance in Los Angeles, California.

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

Meet Lady!

Lady looks and acts like either a Curly-Coated Retriever or a Golden Retriever cross. They estimate her age at approximately 1-1/2 years.

Like most dogs of this breed, she's never met a person or a dog she didn't like. She is inordinately playful, yet gentle. She is presently housed at the Animal Shelter in Pasco, WA and will be at risk of euthanasia as the Shelter suffers from chronic overcrowding. We are seeking an adopter for her and/or a foster home for her.

If you are willing to foster her, Mikey's Chance will pay for her food, veterinary care, spay, vaccinations and microchip... all you need do is give her a place to sleep and, of course, some "Loving", which she so richly deserves.

We found Lady through Mikey's Chance Canine Rescue in Kennewick, Washington.
