Meet Spencer!

He loves to play with tennis balls. He loves to fetch the ball, so he can be chased to retrieve it. He loves long walks, however loves playing in the yard much more. Spencer does not like the thunder. He awaits at the door to get his feet dried so as not to dirty the floor.

Spencer does however, love the snow! Spencer loves to give kisses and likes to get belly rubs. He lies down paws up so he can get his "rubbie bellie." Spencer loves to sit by his family nights, while they are enjoying television. When he is sleeping do not approach him by surprise, it makes him jumpy. Spencer gets very sleepy about 9:30pm to 10:30 pm. He will not go into his room until all lights are out and told go to your room. He is an all around joy to be with. His is up to date on shots, and neutered. Around 2 years old.

Meet Buddy!

There is some debate on what Buddy's mix is. There is no debate that he is a sweet, handsome dog. He is shy at first, but warms up. He is quiet and walks nicely on leash. I think he would be happy to be someone's walking or running partner.

He probably would prefer to live in a rural area than in the city. He is about 55 pounds. I don't know why he hasn't been adopted yet. The longer I know him the more I like him. Buddy is neutered, up to date on his vaccines, wormed,

Meet Ruby!

"I'm a sweet girl who has lots of potential. Being a puppy hasnt been easy and I will need a very patient owner who will give me lots of time to adjust into my forever home. Im really great at giving kisses and sitting in your lap once I get to know you.

I know how to sit and lay down but will definitely require more training (I love to learn). Taking long walks is the woods is my favorite past time and of course getting treats too! Meet Reese!

Meet Laddie!

Laddie is one of those "glass-half-full" type of dogs. He was surrendered to Charley's because his caretakers were elderly and no longer able to exercise and give Laddie what he needs. If nothing else - his former family sure fed Laddie! He came to Charley's so obese that he could barely walk. He has been with us for about a month - and has now started to run and play like a madman.

He is one of the few dogs that thinks life at the shelter is the best thing since the invention of sliced bread:) We were told that Laddie is a full-blooded Boston Terrier - but he came in weighing 47 lbs (yup - you read that right). He is now probably around 40 lbs - but still has another 10lbs to go to be at a healthy weight. We suspect he might be mixed with something - perhaps Bull Dog. Laddie is approximately 4 years old. Laddie's former family reported that he gets along well with other dogs, cats and children.

Meet Jax!

Jax is a high energy 2 year old boy, turned in to a shelter by his owners because he was "too jumpy." Jax is very jumpy, and he acts like the anxious kid that could do no right. Seems we are seeing alot of this lately, but it is pretty obvious that no one has done much with Jax.

This boy is cute and very trainable. He just needs some guidance, as many of them do. We know Jax's people are out there; someone who will take some time to work with him, teach him there are rules, limitations and boundaries and give him some loving. This boy is looking for someone who will bring out the best in him..

Meet Donny!

"Donny" is an approx 10-yr old purebred vizsla who was a shelter stray and his owner didn't come for him. He's not the most handsome vizsla in the world but the short tail dock is not his fault! He rides well in the car, walks nicely on a lead, has been ok with the other dogs in his foster home and is manageable with cats. He is interested in the cat but a simple "uh-uh" distracts him.

His house manners are good despite the fact that he was probably an outside dog and requires an invitation to come inside. Donny is skinny, so you won't have to look into best weight loss supplements, BOL! He does not get on the furniture... yet. He's a bit of a curmudgeon but if you liked Walter Matthaus character in the film Grumpy Old Men you will love Donny!

Meet Crockett!

Crockett is a very bouncy, fun, clown of a dog. Belly rubs are a favorite and he loves to be picked up and cuddled. He gets along with some other dogs and likes cats.

Crockett walks well on leash and enjoys walks in the country and around town but doesn't want to be petted by strangers. He loves being a buddy and hanging out with the guys. Crockett has a slightly crooked front leg (from birth) but it doesn't keep him from enjoying all kinds of companionable activities.

So far Crockett hasn't shown an interest in fetching but loves a treat filled Kong toy or a tough chewy. He is crate trained and comes with his own.

Crockett would do best with an experienced adopter. If not kept in check by a firm, but gentle hand, he has a tendency to want to take control of the household.

Meet Gretel!

Gretel and her sister, Zuma, were found abandoned on an Indian reservation by a kind samaritan. Hot, dehydrated, scared and hungry, these pups were extremely lucky that this kind hearted soul happened to be passing by, stopped to pick them up and brought them to us. Straight to the veterinarian they went as we noticed immediately that they were missing their hair over most of their bodies ... the diagnosis was Sarcoptic mange.

That was over four weeks ago and with great veterinary care, follow up and medicated baths, the mange is gone and Gretel's coat is coming in so shiny and full. Zuma has already found a home but Gretel here is still looking for that great forever family. These pups are tremendously smart and Gretel will even sit on command for a treat already! She is so cute you'll definitely want to get her her own custom water bottles! She also adores humans and will snuggle with you, if she is tired that is.

Meet Jett!

Jets owners decided to give him up because they didn't quite have the lifestyle for a dog like Jet. Pointers and Labs both tend to be energetic dogs who require daily exercise and prefer to be part of the family. Jet is a very social and friendly dog and when left isolated too long will figure a way to venture out and make some new friends on his own! Jet loves everyone he meets and is always eager for fun.

He has lived harmoniously with cats and gets along with most dogs but can be a bit grumpy with them at times. We're sure since he was a stray he could benefit from a click here to learn more about supplements! Because he has not been well socialized with dogs, he would do best in a home with a more submissive dog, or a dog who would gently teach Jet what is and isnt appropriate dog behavior. This handsome boy is ready to share in all of life's adventures with a new forever family.

Meet Skids!

Skids is a 1 year old hound mix that was brought in as a stray that was running around on a jobsite in Arizona. No one came looking for this handsome fellow, so we had him neutered and he is now current on his inoculations.

Skids is a youthful guy who likes to run and play. He's so cute you'll want to get him his own web directory! He is very smart and will do great learning new tricks and going on hikes. He is definitely a family dog and would love to have a nice family he can be part of.

Meet Frank!

Frank was born in 3-13-08. He is extremely loving and friendly. He will fit well into any home and gets along well with other pets.

He is housetrained but given the opportunity to run he will bolt. You'll want to look into walking him a lot, but the good part is you'll learn how to lose weight fast! He eats hard food and is trained to sleep in his kennel at night. This dog has been neutered, micro chipped, wormed and is current with all the shots.

Meet Rex!

We don't know to much about this guy because he came in as a stray. He is Super big and loves everyone. He won't need any over the counter diet pills that really work, he's just a big guy! BOL!

He is not good with cats though! He is a little nervous being in a house but will adjust quickly.

Meet Lola!

Meet little Lola, we are unsure of her exact breed but she sure is cute. She is approx. 6 months old and loves humans. She is full of puppy energy but also loves to be snuggled . Her foster mom says her ears resemble a papillon...come meet Lola and help us figure out her breed. Lola is crate trained and working on basic obedience.

She needs a family that will continue this with her. And you won't have to look into Forex training seminars, because your heart will fill you up! We believe her to be a springer mix, her coloring is gorgeous. She was saved from an overcrowded shelter.

Meet Sasha!

What a cutie! Sasha is a female Poi Dog, tan and red. She is small, about 25 -30 pounds. Sasha is very gentle and tender hearted, and oh, so snuggly!

Meet Tango!

Tango is a male Chihuahua about six lbs. He is very social and playful. He loves to cuddle on your lap and romp with a toy.

He is gentle, daring, and curious and doesn't have eczema, that's fur sure!. He is house-trained and walks well on a leash. Tango needs a fully fenced back yard. He'd enjoy a household with another dog as a playmate. He will quickly steal your heart!

Meet Gypsy!

Gypsy is a one year old spayed female Australian shepherd/Catahoula mix. She is mostly black with white markings. She is slow to completely trust people, but will be your best friend when she learns that you are safe.

She is great with other dogs and cats. She is submissive, showing no Alpha dog instincts. She loves to play with her foster siblings and has even engaged the cat in play. Gypsy loads in the vehicle and rides very well. Gypsy walks well on the leash. She is house trained, sits and learning other commands.

Gypsy is willing to please you and follow you from room to room in the house. Her approximate date of birth is June 12, 2009

Meet Pino!

Pino is approximately 1-2 years old. Pino is a very loving little boy who gets along great with other dogs. The lady that brought Pino to the shelter said she found Pino approximately one week ago near the Econolodge in Grandview Plaza in Junction City, Kansas.

The lady also stated Pino is housebroken. If no one comes forward to claim Pino, he will be available for adoption on September 1st.

Meet Cyrus!

Cyrus is a 4-year-old Great Pyrenees/Akbash mix. He is a beautiful, sweet boy, who allows his friend Meeka to boss him around mercilessly.

Cyrus has no alpha tendencies, but he is a great guardian. He is always the first to notice when something is not right or someone approaches, and barks alarm. Cyrus is timid and shy with people and has a history of serious abuse as a pup. Cyrus is great with all kinds of animals, including chickens.

Cyrus would do wonderfully as a pet/ livestock guardian in a place without a great deal of traffic. Cyrus has a heart of gold and needs someone to love him and give him a job.

Meet Honey!

Honey is a tri-colored Bassett Hound that was picked up as a stray from the northeast side of town. She's mostly short-haired, but she has unique areas of medium, wispy hair.

She is very pretty, definitely have not seen a Bassett that looks like this one in quite awhile. She has a friendly demeanor and is very eager and ready to be placed in a new home!

Meet Frank!

Frank is a Puggle. He was found as a stray.

He is super sweet and mellow and is great with everyone. He is very good with kids, cats and other dogs. Frank walks great on a leash and would make a great walking buddy. Bet he'd make a good Batman on Halloween with one of those sexy adult costumes, BOL!

He also loves to sleep on couches, beds and wants to be close to cuddle. Frank is pretty smart too! He knows how to sit and lay down. Frank is happy looking out a window or getting his belly rubbed. Wouldn't you love to snuggle up with Frank?

Meet Charlie!

From Charlie...

Woof, woof, woof, my name is Charlie. I am a handsome, young man looking for my forever family. I have been through a lot in my 6 years of life. I am originally from a humane society in Milwaukee Wisconsin where my owners surrendered me because they didn't have enough time to spend with me.

Then I was transfered to a German Shepherd rescue who adopted me out to an older woman. When they gave me a meat bone and her father tried to take it from me, I snapped at him. They returned me to the german shepherd rescue who felt I would do better with another rescue. So Happily Ever After took me in.

Then I was adopted from HEA and spent a long time with that family but one day I was scolding/barking at a neighbor dog and my little brother stepped in front of my face and got nipped, not on purpose. My dad said they had to return me to HEA but my mom and little brothers wanted to keep me...my dad won that battle.

So now here I am...looking for family and love again. I need a family that will be active with me and keep me busy. But I also need a family that is willing to chill with me on the couch and rub my belly. Do you think you could play and exercise with me and then when we are all tired out, just sit with me on the couch?

If you think you could give me everything I need, please come and bring me home. I am a very well mannered man, I just need a family to keep me in line!

Meet Duckie!

This little bundle of energy has had a rough life, but despite her troubles she still has a fantastic attitude.

Duckie was found as a stray and she has a visible scar on her rear leg from an unknown accident. She is approximately 4 years old. She has a very loving personality and enjoys the company of people.

She has been vaccinated and will be spayed and microchipped before she goes to a new home. Give Duckie a chance to steal your heart!

Meet Ernie!

Ernie is a light colored apricot Poodle. He is a very happy little fellow and loves the company of other dogs his size.

He has fit in well with the other dogs in his foster home and learning about crate training, walking on a leash etc. He has a cute personality and loves attention.

Meet Wiggles!

This is Wiggles. She was a stray dog that her rescuers think is around 9 months to around 1 year old. She is a wonderful little dog that is always so happy.

She will make a wonderful addition to a family with slightly older children, since she is a little to excitable for really small toddler aged children.

Wiggles is great on a leash and keeps her kennel pretty clean but she still might need to have a little house training. She only weighs around 6 pounds. Update: Wiggles is now full grown and is around 10 pounds.

Meet Bridger!

Bridger is a neutered 1 year old male tri-color Aussie mix. His estimated date of birth is August 4, 2009.

Bridger is a very sweet and affectionate dog. He likes to go for walks and loves the pool full of water in his kennel. He gets along great with other dogs and children. Bridger's current weight is 36 pounds, but he could stand to put on a few.

Meet Minnie!

It appears Minnie was abandoned by her family and left to fend for herself. She was brought to the shelter after sneaking into someone's home through a doggie door looking for something to eat.

Minnie came to rescue quite underweight and was immediately placed on the Shelter Spa Weight Gain & Nutrition Plan! After receiving some good vet care, having a few teeth pulled and a little time on her new diet plan, Minnie was on the road to recovery. She is now looking and feeling quite marvelous, so we're sure you'll want to get some save the date cards to announce your new arrival!

The adversity of her past seems a faint memory, as she is always happy, loving and greets each day with excitement and anticipation of a new adventure. Minnie is friendly with other dogs and seems relatively uninterested in the cats at the shelter. This special girl is so grateful for everything which comes her way. She certainly deserves a new family who will love her and care for her always and forever.

Meet Hannah!

Hannah came from a breeder rescue. She was a little shy as first, but that is to be expected due to her background and life so far. She is coming along great and getting more social by the day and started playing with the other dogs. She will make a wonderful pet to a loving familiy.

She is approx 2-3 yrs old, 7.5 lbs spayed and UTD on routine vaccinations. So far she is enjoying her new found freedom and comforts of a real home that she so deserves. Her coat was a little thin when she came in, most likley due to bad diet and/or stress, but it is looking beautiful and soft now. She is a petite, smaller built pom and cute as can be with a wonderful personality. She is doing great with house training and keeps her crate clean at night.

Meet Harley!

Harley is a Dr. Seuss sort of dog... apparently a Basset Hound met a German Shepherd and there was some loving going on. She very much has the typical Basset go with the flow personality. She is great with the other dogs and loves to play, she doesn't love to share her bones with them, but otherwise loves them!

She lives for her walks, does a happy hopping dance when she sees her leash come out. She is relaxed in the house, loves to snuggle, and spends most of her days patrolling the backyard for squirrels and napping in the sunshinie near her people. You'll want to be sure and beef up your hard drives so you can store lots of pics of this cutie! She is housetrained, crate trained, and playful and always good for a laugh. Harley does not appreciate kids in her space so needs a teenager/adult only home. She cannot be placed with cats.
