According to a news report in the Edwardsville Journal, based in Collinsville, Illinois:
Hope Animal Rescues, an Edwardsville-based animal rescue organization, is basking the attention from a national charity challenge hosted by Parade magazine.
The group placed 12th in the magazine's sixdegrees.org challenge contest, raising $7,000 to help pay for spay and neuter services for pets.
The charity was competing with about 4,000 charities to win four $50,000 grants. The charity also received a $1,000 grant for being one of the top 100 charities in donations.
Each vote was a $10 donation collected on the Internet.
Although they did not win one of the four big grants, co-owner Jackie Spiker says the attention created by the contest has helped the organization.

Meet Jethro and help Eleventh Hour Rescue win a $50,000 grant!
Jethro is a young Labrador Retriever mix currently being cared for by the folks at Eleventh Hour Rescue, in Rockaway, New Jersey. Jethro is a playful pup, with lots of new things to learn and discover.
Click here to watch Jethro's video, and find out more about him.
Eleventh Hour Rescue is a volunteer based, non profit, 501c3 organization that literally saves dogs from death row. They do not currently have a shelter and rely on the generosity of their volunteers to provide loving foster homes for dogs pulled from death row in high-kill shelters.
The organization is once again participating in a challenge being offered through Kevin Bacon's SixDegrees.org, partnering with the Case Foundation and Parade on America's Giving Challenge. The eight charity badges that have the most unique donors through the America's Giving Challenge will receive $50,000 for their cause.
They are entered in this contest for their rescue and need the help of each and every one of you. The Challenge ends on January 31, 2008 at 3:00 pm eastern time so please hurry!
Click here to watch their video. Donations are tax deductible and all they are asking for is a $10 donation made thru their charity badge below to have a chance at this $50,000 grant!
It is not the organization with the most money in donations that wins but the organization that has the highest number of unique donors. So every donor counts!
